Setting up a home office should consist of more than simply finding free space or an empty corner of your home to place your lap top.
The internet and technology now allows for many individuals to work comfortably from their own home. If you have been creative enough to create for yourself a career working from home then how hard could it possibly be to spend a little time creating a space that will assist you in accomplishing your goals?
The Art of Feng Shui
There have been many studies conducted on the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui. There are also many resources on the topic. There are so many possibilities and these can seem daunting if you have never though of utilizing these principles in your own personal space. If you are just getting started utilizing Feng Shui concepts then it is best to focus on things that can be done easily using just a small amount of information.
Clear Out Your Clutter
One of the most important things for you to do when trying to create office Feng Shui is to clean up your clutter. You should take the time to categorize things and get your stuff organized before removing them from your office, even if only temporarily. Grab a few boxes and label them with some basic categories. Ideas include bills, office supplies, magazines, stationery, personal items, etc. Place your items into the boxes accordingly so that you can easily find them and organize them later. The most important thing is to clear the room so that you can start creating your perfect space.
Your Use of Color
Even if you are clueless about Feng Shui, an immediate “cure” for your home office is a fresh coat of paint. Different colors cause different responses in the brain.
First try and decide what you are hoping to accomplish from your home office. Are you a writer who needs a place to think of new and fresh ideas? If so it is a good idea to choose something in the blue family. If you’re an accountant and need your brain clear or organized then you should consider an orange shade such as apricot or pumpkin. These colors aid in increasing your mental clarity. Red, though it might seem bold will aid you if you’re in the sales industry. If painting the entire room seems too overwhelming you might want to just paint an accent wall rather than painting the entire room.
The following colors represent different feelings:
* Red- aggressive in business
* Orange- good for evoking cooperation and collaboration
* Yellow- promotes clear thinking
* Purple- stimulates creativity
Now that you are free from clutter and surrounded by a color which inspires you, it is time to start incorporating Feng Shui into other areas of your home office.
